BRENDA’S BARRIER FREE BLESSING
Brenda from Portland, Oregon believed she would need to move from her home of 43 years because she was becoming more disabled and was concerned about slipping and falling in the bathtub.
Instead Brenda replaced her bathtub with a Freedom Handicapped Accessible Shower.
The prefabricated unit fit into the existing framing pocket and was able to match the plumbing location, which helped keep the cost of the bathroom remodel down.
A few different Handicap Showers fit in the same 5 ft. space as her standard tub with a drain at the same end. Brenda looked at walk in bathtubs, but an Accessible Shower would be usable longer.
The new roll in handicapped accessible shower took only 2 days to install and Brenda was able to shower safety in the home she loved.
For additional comfort Brenda added shower safety grab bars, a shower seat and an adjustable handheld shower kit, which mounts to a glide bar.
Now she looks forward to taking a shower, and loves that she can stay living in her own home for many more years.
Handicap Accessible Remodelling
A wheelchair accessible shower stall can be installed where your bathtub is today, with minimal renovation disruptions. A skilled tradesman can typically install a barrier free shower in 2-3 days.
Your new handicapped shower is helpful to people of diverse abilities, from an elderly parent with limited mobility to an agile teenager. Universal design principles offer better access for all users.
Handicap Accessible Showers are available in many different sizes and configurations. Most of the residential Freedom Showers are multi-piece units for remodelling projects. There are a few one piece shower stalls available for new construction projects.
When researching bathroom remodeling ideas it’s important to consider the long term use of the bathroom and consider aging in place ideas, like low threshold shower units and grab bars for added safety.

GEORGE GETS RIGHT INTO THE SHOWER
George and his wife Lillian live in Orlando, Florida. George had a fall a while ago, and now needs a walker to get around. It is no longer possible for George to step into the bathtub. After discussing options with an OT, it was determined that a barrier free shower with a folding shower seat and grab bars would be the best option for them. That way he wouldn’t need as much assistance. George and Linda love their Freedom Shower.
Freedom Accessible Showers come with a 30 year manufacturers warranty, and meet UL and CSA standards for safety and have been tested to meet industry fire rating standards.
